The Military Personnel Section (MPS),
with its 43 employees, supports over
10,000 active duty, retired, DoD
employees, and family members
dispersed over six geographical locations
and four countries from initial
in-processing, career progression,
military professional development,
deployments, reenlistments, and family
care, casualty reporting and assistance,
to final out-processing. In addition, the
MPS is the key personnel advisor to the
31 FW, group, and squadron
commanders on numerous programs
ranging from performance reports to the
Personnel Reliability Program (PRP). |

In May of 2008, the MPS took on a massive endeavor by implementing the AF/A1-mandated Base Level Service
Delivery Model (BLSDM) and rolled up 27 personnelists into the MPS, restructuring the entire section into three
elements: Customer Support, Force Management, and Career Development. To help smooth the transition of
each squadron commander losing their personnel support, the MPS conducted over 23 personnel "Road
Shows" to affected commanders highlighting the changes and new services the MPS offers. The undertaking
was hailed as a great success by all involved and is now incorporated into each new commander's briefings
within the first 60 days of command. The 31 FSS's MPS was named the USAFE's Gerrit D. Foster, Jr., award
winner for Most Outstanding MPS for 2007 and the USAF's Gerrit D. Foster, Jr., award winner for Most
Outstanding MPS for 2008. The MPS represents the heartbeat of Aviano's "people" mission.
