NAF stands for Nonappropriated Funds, which means we are federal employees, but we are not civil service (GS). Civil Service employees are appropriated fund employees whose pay is appropriated by Congress from our tax money. In NAF, we pay our own way from money that we generate from our various activities. We are called Nonappropriated to show that we are not supported by tax dollars.

    Who Can Apply? NATO dependents of U.S. Military or Civilian employees stationed at Aviano, AB. Dependents must have an official passport, soggiorno, visa and be listed on the sponsor’s orders or command sponsorship letter. Applicants are required to provide copies of these documents with their application. Italian citizens may apply for NAF positions through Civilian Personnel located in Area E.
Do NAF employees receive benefits? Yes! Regular category NAF employees enjoy benefits similar to GS employees, such as annual leave, sick leave, awards, retirement, 401k, health and life insurance, workers compensation, overtime and holiday pay. We also offer flexible schedules including days, evenings and weekends. Unlike GS positions, many of our jobs require little or no previous qualifying work experience, allowing individuals the opportunity to gain federal work experience.
